POGGIO AL TESORO

Poggio al Tesoro – Bolgheri, A discovery to be made

Poggio al Tesoro is the story of the adventure of two brothers, Marilisa and Walter Allegrini, from the historic Venetian wine family, who decided to establish themselves in one of the most prestigious wine production areas: in perfect continuity with their pursuit of winemaking excellence, they purchased 3 hectares of land in the prestigious Bolgheri region in 2001.

Marilisa and Walter understood the importance of a territory whose uniqueness could be further enhanced. Located just steps away from the sea, Bolgheri enjoys an exceptional climate, offering ideal conditions for high- quality viticulture. When acquiring the Poggio al Tesoro lands, the two brothers chose plots both close to the coast and near the hills, focusing on diversifying the terroir and grape varieties in cultivation. Poggio al Tesoro has now expanded to 105 hectares, with 64 hectares under vines, divided into four vineyards: two along the Via Bolgherese, the largest and closest to the sea in Le Sondraie area, and the fourth in the municipality of Bibbona. Each estate has distinct qualities that, combined, produce wines of great elegance and personality. The vineyards feature international varieties: Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, and Petit Verdot for red grapes, and Vermentino, Viognier and Petit Manseng for white grapes. After Walter’s passing in 2003, Marilisa

and her daughters Carlotta and Caterina started leading Poggio al Tesoro, along with a skilled, and motivated staff. Agronomist Franco Dal Colle and winemaker Christian Coco are responsible for the viticulture and winemaking.

Poggio al Tesoro produces 10 wines: Vermentino Solosole Bolgheri DOC, the rosé Cassiopea Toscana Rosato IGT, and Il Seggio Bolgheri Doc. Two Bolgheri Doc Superiore wines stand out: Sondraia Bolgheri DOC Superiore, the company’s flagship wine, and Poggio al Tesoro Dedicato a Walter, made from 100% Cabernet Franc.. Over time, Poggio al Tesoro has achieved numerous successes, receiving significant recognition from leading international wine critics.

IL SEGGIO | 50% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc, 10% Petit Verdot Il Seggio is the main river in the municipality of Castagneto Carducci. This Bolgheri Rosso is produced from typical grape varieties, harvested and vinified to ensure depth, concentration, as well as freshness and drinkability. The aroma reveals beautiful fresh and crunchy fruit, enriched with mineral and spicy notes. The palate is medium-bodied with red berry fruit flavors. The tannins are elegant, silky, and enveloping, providing a soft texture.

SONDRAIA | 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc. Sondraia is a clear witness of how the Bordeaux blend harmoniously meets the Bolgheri terroir, creating wines of unique character.
