Bringing the authentic flavors of Sicilian pastry worldwide
Dolce Sicilia Surgelati is an Artisan Workshop founded in 2002 in the beautiful town of Castellammare del Golfo, located between the cities of Palermo and Trapani: it’s the cradle of Sicilian pastry, and this is what inspired the choice to produce frozen traditional pastries and gastronomy. Why do we offer frozen products?
The choice was made to export these delicious products worldwide, aiming to guarantee quality and perfect preservation for at least 12 months. Freezing is the best preservation method: it eliminates the use of preservatives and chemical additives, which are often found in commercially available foods.
It’s made possible by the use of powerful freezers with a cooling flow of -40°C/-50°C, allowing the product to be frozen in the shortest possible time, thus preventing the formation of large ice crystals that damage organoleptic properties.
Moreover, the rapid freezing process helps bypass the critical phase where foods are vulnerable to bacterial contamination. Dolce Sicilia Surgelati boasts a space of 1,000 square meters: the new facility was built in 2013 in the Artisan Zone of Buseto Palizzolo (Trapani, Sicily), a town adjacent to Castellammare del Golfo.
The Artisan Workshop was built in compliance with all the sanitary and hygienic requirements necessary to obtain the CE Mark for international sales, maintaining a high standard of quality control and risk management in production.
The products that gave rise to the business are mainly three. Cassatelle (“Cassateddi” in Sicilian) is a local dessert made with sheep ricotta cream, shaped like a giant ravioli, fried, and served with a dusting of powdered sugar.
Arancine are simply 200-gram rice balls, but they have ancient origins, with references dating back to the year 1226; today, our company produces more than 60 varieties to satisfy every palate. Finally, another flagship product is Panelle: a chickpea flour fritter seasoned with salt and pepper. The good practices adopted over the years have rewarded the company with continuous growth in both production and sales.
Other products offered include Sicilian Cassate (non-fried and bigger version of Cassatelle), Cassatine (small Cassata), Cannoli, Iris (pastries filled with ricotta or custard, coated in dough, and fried), Bomboloni, Lava Cakes, Almond Pastries, Ericine Genovesi (pastries filled with custard, wrapped in shortcrust pastry), Apple Puffs, Rollino Babà (small, rolled version of the classic Babà, soaked in rum syrup), Cartoccio (pastry filled with ricotta or custard, wrapped in a crispy shell), Cakes, Cazzilli Palermitani (Croquettes), Gastronomic Products, and much more.
