An ancient history
During the autumn of 1877, a significant event occurred in the history of the Villa: Count Francesco Guicciardini married Princess Luísa Strozzi, marking a union that intertwined two noble families. As part of the Strozzi family’s dowry, the Villa and its surrounding lands were donated to the Guicciardini lineage. Historical studies conducted on documents from the Guicciardini library in Florence, dating back to the Monastery of the Capuchins, shed light on the origins of the current Villa Cappuccina. These documents confirm that the Villa’s walls date back to that period.
Although the term “reduction” appears in historical documents, it is more correctly interpreted as “reconstruction,” indicating that Villa Cappuccina has undergone renovations and improvements while maintaining its essential character. In the 1980s, the structure was purchased by the Agnorelli family, who transformed it into a small boutique hotel. Later, in the 2000s, the property received permission to expand the old Villa Cappuccina, and next to Villa Torre, the current Resort took shape with 62 rooms spread over two floors, as well as a basement with an auditorium capable of accommodating 300 people and a wellness center of approximately 300 square meters.
The latest change of ownership dates back to 2023 when American investors decided to invest in this location to attract a mid-high range clientele even in the San Gimignano area. At the beginning of 2024, renovation works began, and improvements to the restaurant, named Torre Luce after the main towers of the area; the pool with its panoramic terrace and the historic Villa can already be admired.
