Simplified logistics zone crucial to green logistic valley, the innovative and sustainable development project for the valpolcevera valley
Spediporto is Italy’s most representative association of international shipping houses, with about 300 member transport and logistics companies. Provides comprehensive, professional, and consistent assistance in every area of expertise, both import and export. In addition, it conducts, through investee companies, activities in various fields such as telematics development for the computerization of port operational processes (with emphasis on technological innovation, digitization, and computerization), cargo services, port gate assistance, certified weighing operations, cargo control, staff training and professional development, fumigation services, and customs consulting.
Spediporto works in partnership with all players in the Genoese port system. After the dramatic collapse of Ponte Morandi, the idea of a project that could revitalize the Valpolcevera was born. Thus, it was then that the Green Logistic Valley took shape, a development initiative inserted in the area that includes Sampierdarena, Rivarolo, Bolzaneto, and Pontedecimo, in the middle of which the Polcevera stream flows. The right bank, historically, is the one most used for productive purposes, while the left bank is more urbanized.
This area is of great environmental value with a definite historical and social identity, where many abandoned areas, a legacy of Genoa’s most industrial era, persist. Green Logistic Valley is aiming at the redevelopment of these areas (about 2 million square meters), representing, in the medium and long term, a significant development opportunity capable of integrating with major national and international brands already present in the area, such as Fincantieri, Ansaldo, San Giorgio, IIT, Ericsson, Siemens, Esaote, Ikea, and Amazon.
The geographical location is exceptionally favorable because Valpolcevera is close to the commercial ports of Sampierdarena and Voltri. It is also close to Colombo Airport. In addition, it will be connected to the infrastructure that is about to be built and planned, like Terzo Valico and Gronda, making it easier to connect with southern European markets. A catchment area for productions made in the Green Logistic Valley has 200 million consumers with a high spending capacity. Back to the airport, the GOAS Consortium Company, promoted by Spediporto, manages the dedicated cargo spaces at the Genoa airport.
It has over 6,000 square meters, including a 2,200-square- meter maneuvering area and a 900-square-meter apron- side quay. The 21 companies that embraced the project have pitched in with enthusiasm and determination to revitalize air cargo in Genoa. The Green Logistic Valley is a unique project in Italy that combines technology, sustainability, social inclusion, and port-city integration. Essential is the Simplified Logistics Zone, the path of which finally started a few months ago and will now have to take important executive steps. It is a measure that, through simplifications, including bureaucratic ones and facilitations, can attract foreign investment to Italy.
The experience of many Italian companies in relocating relevant sectors of their production chain to foreign special economic zones shows how it is possible to set up research, development, and innovation centers in these areas to experiment, with obvious advantages in terms of eco-sustainability and professional qualification of workers. The FTZ will also be able to foster the sharing of goals between the public and private sectors. Spediporto is working on establishing a holding Foundation with the involvement of territorial institutions for the Green Logistic Valley.
Companies set up within a customs-interlocked Simplified Logistics Zone must commit to reinvesting in the area. At the center will be sustainability. The Green Logistic Valley Foundation wants to become the first ESG community in Italy, and companies will be able to gain important recognition. Farm 2.0, a high-tech farm starring robotics and artificial intelligence, will provide typical Ligurian products grown in greenhouses with an important saving of precious resources (-98% water).
Technology will ensure that innovative start-ups can leave from here to carry their baggage of progress worldwide, along with the spirit of inclusion of those who live in the area, new professional skills tailor-made to the needs of businesses, and the essential involvement of educational institutions. This project that Spediporto wants to start as soon as possible is ambitious. It can represent an unparalleled opportunity for foreign and Italian investors and the development and revitalization of the entire city of Genoa.
