CANONEOCCIDENTALE

Excellence in Vermouth from Turin

Canone Occidentale was developed by the Rodia team, a small family-owned company based in Turin, Italy, with headquarters in Piazza Castello, right in the city center, opposite Palazzo Madama and Palazzo Reale. What is Vermouth Vermouth is an alcoholic beverage that must contain 75% wine and have an alcohol content of at least 14.5%. It can be white, red, dry or extra dry, depending on the sugar content.

A fundamental component is the selection of spices used to give it a specific flavor profile, among which the most important is artemisia. Vermouth, as a drink, was “officially” born in Turin, developed by Mr. Carpano in 1786. A Vermouth di Torino Superiore must meet these characteristics: – at least 17% of alcohol content – at least 50% wine produced in Piedmont – must contain herbs cultivated or harvested in Piedmont or aromatic substances derived from these herbs Western canon The brand name highlights the exceptional quality of our Vermouth di Torino Superiore. “Canone” represents a reference point, while “Occidentale” (Western) reflects the geographical position: a benchmark for alcoholproduction in the western part of Italy.

Our vermouth is available in three variations (all made with wine from Piedmont), each dedicated to a specific area of Turin: Rosso (Red Wine) We are among the few to use a red wine: Langhe DOC Dolcetto. The aromatic preparation includes three types of artemisia: absinthium, pontica, and vallesiaca.

It also features Piedmontese clary sage, hyssopus officinalis, and centaurea benedicta, along with an aromatic preparation of Piedmont hazelnuts. This vermouth blends exotic flavors of roots, barks, and cocoa beans with the traditional taste of Piedmont hazelnuts. Our red wine celebrates Piazza della Repubblica (represented by the octagonal shape on the label), home to the largest food market in Europe, a crossroads of exchanges, and the multicultural face of the city.

Bianco (White Wine) Made with Piemonte DOC Cortese wine. The aromatic preparation also includes three types of artemisia: absinthium, pontica, and vallesiaca. Additionally, we have created an aromatic preparation with Piedmontese peppermint and French lavender. These two herbs create an extremely subtle and balanced finish. Our white wine celebrates the Roman quadrilateral and Piazza delle Erbe (represented by the quadrilateral on the label), a historic gathering place for merchants, filled with fragrances and colors.

Dry Made with Piemonte DOC Cortese wine. Its aromas feature the classic artemisia and centaurea benedicta. The extra dry vermouth (with very little sugar) gives notes of elderflower and chamomile. Our dry pays tribute to the famous parco del valentino along the banks of the Po river (represented by the triangle on the label) and the Italian-style gardens filled with flowers and plants created by Maria di Savoia-Nemours.
