A high-altitude restaurant
At an altitude of 2000 meters, in the Dolomites of Val di Fassa, in the province of Trento, the Trottner family welcomes mountain lovers to Baita Checco: in the scenic natural amphitheater of Ciampedie, gourmet cuisine is offered, drawing from local history and traditions.
Antonella Winterle and Matthias Trottner are the owners of the restaurant. Matthias is also the chef and one of the most talented cooks in the valley: influenced by the teachings of his grandmother, his first mentor, he turned his passion for cooking, which has accompanied him since childhood, into a profession.
Baita Checco primarily works with locally sourced, zero kilometer ingredients from Trentino, offering a menu that reinterprets traditional local recipes.
In addition to refined dishes, you can enjoy typical Trentino dishes such as canederli (traditional bread dumplings made with speck, cheese, and herbs), polenta (a dish made from boiled cornmeal, often served as a side or base for various toppings), meats, and mushrooms. Gluten-free recipes, salads, finger food, and a children’s menu are also available.
Easily accessible via the Catinaccio cable car from Vigo di Fassa or the chairlifts from Pera di Fassa, the route to the restaurant allows visitors to enjoy the mountain landscape – it’s not uncommon to spot deer, foxes, or other wildlife that inhabit the area.
Additionally, only during the summer season, visitors can experience the magical evening atmosphere of the mountains: on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, and only by reservation, it is possible to dine at Baita Checco, with a shuttle service available to transport guests directly to the restaurant.
Baita Checco also participates in several local initiatives, focused on relaxation or exploring the mountains: the restaurant offers breakfasts and lunches to those taking part in hikes or yoga classes. It also serves as a unique wedding venue: the backdrop of the Dolomites can make the most special day even more memorable. “Because where love feels at home, the food tastes better, from the palate to the heart” is the motto of the Baita.
