Fiordiponti: the “kingdom” of focaccia

Liguria focaccias, Italian cuisine, aperitifs with focaccia tastings, cocktails by bartender Daniele Moroni. Fiordiponti is the “kingdom” of focaccia, a typical baked product of the Italian tradition, and a landmark in the cuisine of the Liguria region. Focaccia is served plain or with onions, olives, cherry tomatoes, or potatoes. A typical specialty of the Ligurian town of Recco is Focaccia with cheese, which has become a gastronomic symbol thanks to the European Union’s Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) certification.

In Santa Margherita Ligure, you can find the historic “Fiordiponti” bakery, which now has a location in Milan too; the project was born from the idea by Milanese entrepreneur Gerry Volpi, who “imported” it in 2013 in a revisited location in a Milanese style, with bar counter and tables. Since then, besides offering focaccias for takeaway, Fiordiponti Bakery & Café in Milan has become a meeting place for breakfast, lunch, or aperitif, in an environment with wooden tables and two cozy outdoor areas.

In the morning, the Italian breakfast is served: Cappuccino, Espresso, Marocchino, Ginseng or Barley Coffee, Fresh fruit and vegetable smoothies can be accompanied by fragrant Croissants, plain or filled with jam, cream, or Nutella. In addition, biscuits, cakes, and other homemade desserts are available. All the day, Fiordiponti bakes Genoese Focaccia, ham piadinas as well as Focaccia with cheese (Recco). Pizza, savory pies or focaccia with onions or olives or potatoes or cereals are also offered. For lunch, the focaccias are accompanied by Ligurian dishes such as Trofie with pesto, Ravioli in walnut sauce, and the “Pasqualina” pie.

The dishes of the menu come from the creativity of the owner Gerry Volpi, sommelier and expert restaurateur, who enriches traditional Ligurian products with seasonal ingredients. Starting in the afternoon, thanks to a display of lights and soft music, Fiordiponti becomes a cocktail bar for aperitif time, where you can enjoy Italian wines and beer in the indoor room or outside, at the tables in the two outdoor areas, with finger food and focaccia platters included in the price of the drinks.

The highlight is the cocktails prepared by D. Moroni, a barman with 30 years of experience: Aperol or Campari Spritz, Americano, Negroni, Mojito, Moscow Mule and Hugo are just a few of the over 70 drinks on the menu. Fiordiponti is also the ideal location for organizing events, in a welcoming environment with wooden furniture and vintage prints of Ligurian cities on the walls.
