Arena Albaro Village, Sports and Leisure in The Heart of Genoa
Arena Albaro Village is the sports and leisure citadel in the heart of Genoa’s residential Albaro district. It is the most important swimming facility in Liguria and among the main ones in Italy. Spanning more than 25,000 square meters, it houses five swimming pools and a qualified diving facility – the only one in Liguria – it boasts a sports center and rehabilitation center, tennis, five-a-side soccer, Padel and Padbol courts, a space equipped for crossfit, outdoor spaces for children, as well as a picnic area, 20 businesses including shops and restaurants, a go-karts circuit, and a track for running and skating. Built in the 1930s to provide the city of Genoa with a state-of-the-art sports facility, the Stadio del Nuoto di Albaro was inaugurated on October 27th, 1935, by Vittorio Emanuele III King of Italy. Designed by Engineer Paride Contri, it is an environment designed specifically for swimming and diving competitions. The year after its inauguration, the project – selected for the national sports architecture competition announced by CONI – was exhibited at the Berlin Art Olympics. Today, lo stadio del Nuoto di Albaro – reopened in 2008 following a major redevelopment project-has become a true sports and leisure village, with a highly qualified
sports program, varied and high-quality recreational activities, free play areas for children and gathering areas for better livability of the neighborhood. In terms of sports, the Arena Albaro Village is the largest sports complex in the city with its 6 swimming pools, including an Olympic-size one that is active 12 months a year, 1 multi-purpose sports center, 2 padel courts, 2 padbol courts, 1 area equipped for crossfit, 2 synthetic turf 5-a-side soccer fields, and 6 clay tennis courts. The facilities are managed by highly qualified staff and offer both admission or reservation-based services and classes for all ages and competitive levels. The sports on offer and spaces with activities dedicated to youngsters – such as inflatables, a play area, and a go-kart track – have for some years now been complimented by 15 different establishments offering an array of rich food and wine with everything from aperitifs to dinner, from breakfast to lunch. A variety of foods on offer, from pizza to meat, from Brazilian sushi to Mediterranean dishes, high quality aperitifs and snacks, a restaurant specializing in seafood, and snacks with crepes or homemade ice cream. Lastly, a beauty center, a sportswear store and a multi-specialty rehabilitation center are also available.
