The entrepreneurial business of Molino Casillo, which is today the undisputed leader in the European wheat trade, is enriched by the Masseria Faraona brand, an expression of territoriality, taste and experience through its range of authentic wines and gourmet extra virgin olive oils from Puglia. Masseria Faraona is the story of a strong knowledge founded in southern Italy more than 60 years ago, growing and developing in a direct relationship with the land through the generations, resulting in a true family business story. “We don’t lose sight of our roots. We enhance the territory” are the words of Beniamino Casillo, Brand Founder of Masseria Faraona. Masseria Faraona is located in Puglia, in the heart of the Alta Murgia National Park, at the foot of the imposing Castel del Monte, where historic dry stone walls define the boundaries between the countryside. The climate is characterised by cold northern winds and hot-dry currents from the south, creating ideal conditions for excellent agriculture. Vines and olives are the two crops that have taken root most deeply in these soils, virtually and culturally. Nero di Troia, Bombino Bianco and Bombino Nero are some of the native vines from which Masseria Faraona obtains its prestigious wines, certified as DOC Castel del Monte and DOCG Castel del Monte. All Masseria Faraona’s white, red and rosé wines have received prestigious awards, having participated in various national competitions. They are particularly appreciated for their fresh mineral character, as well as for the richness of their olfactory sensations. Listed for years in the Oro Veronelli, Vini Buoni d’Italia and Bibenda guides, Masseria Faraona wines continue to make a name for themselves, spreading the wine culture of Puglia. Masseria Faraona is also an embodiment of Puglia’s olive culture through its 100% extra virgin olive oil. The main varieties are Coratina, Peranzana, Nocellara and Ogliarola Barese, each with distinctive characteristics. The oils are extracted using a continuous cold process, following partly mechanical and partly manual harvesting of the olives. Cold pressing of the olives allows the organoleptic characteristics of the extra virgin oil to remain unaltered while preserving all the properties of the olives, the number of minerals, vitamins and antioxidant substances, albeit at the expense of the final yield. Quality always comes first and Masseria Faraona oils bear witness to this in their taste and through the recent awards received by the Gambero Rosso Guide to Italian Oils 2021. Masseria Faraona’s journey continues amidst many professional challenges aimed at improvement, which year after year are measured in new experiences and new sensorial notes.
